Northeastern Oklahoma A&M CB Jayden Swanson picks up first two offers
Jayden Swanson JUCO Football
Northeastern Oklahoma A&M cornerback Jayden Swanson received his first offer from the UNLV Rebels on June 20. He subsequently received a second offer from the Sacramento State Hornets on Sunday.
Sports Madness caught up with him to talk about his recruitment and the offers he's received.
How has the off-season been going?
"The off-season went well, with a lot of great competition every day, knowing that a lot of players were coming back. What's special about this upcoming season is that we have some great pieces with a lot of experience returning, as well as the back end—guys like Aaron Edwards, Ta'Vari Hampton, Tyron Amacker, Lauron Johnson, and Jordan Warrior."
How is the recruiting process going for you?
"It's been going well. I've been in touch with a lot of coaches since the end of the spring."
Were you recruited out of high school?
"I really wasn't recruited out of high school heavily. I had a couple of Division 1 and Division 2 schools reaching out, but the recruiting process is way different, knowing I could go into a four-year year and get a chance to play right away."
You received your latest offer from Sacramento State. Can you tell me about that?
"I've been talking to Sacramento State since February 23, so Coach Walls (cornerback coach Darrin Walls) and I have just been building a good relationship for a while, so we have a really good connection."
Take me back to when you received your first offer from UNLV. Which coach told you about the offer, and how did that conversation go?
"Coach Davis (cornerback coach Akeem Davis) told me to come to their camp. He watched my tape the previous days before, and then I ran a 4.3 in the 40-yard dash, and I performed well there. After the camp, he told me that he liked how I moved and how I could stay over the top of defenses. Shortly after, he blessed me with an offer."
What other schools are you hearing from?
"I have been hearing from West Virginia, Florida Atlantic, Tulsa, Louisiana Tech, South Alabama, and Texas State."
What will you be looking for in the program you ultimately decide to commit to?
"I'm really looking for a program with a strong coaching staff that's committed to developing players both as athletes and as people. Ultimately, I want to find a place where I feel like I can grow and contribute to a good program."
With his first two offers secured and the season approaching, expect Swanson to receive more offers soon.
